What is this blog?

My name is Cíara Kain and this is where I write down what I think about the latest movies I’ve watched. These aren’t “Film Reviews” (except Lost River), they are film analyses with my opinion.

Credibility

I’m a Digital Cinema and Filmmaking Major with a minor in Film and Screen Studies as well as Women and Gender Studies. I study at Pace University in New York, and I took a semester abroad in The Netherlands to study Film analysis.

When I watch movies, I study the frame: what’s inside it and what’s not. This includes the physical people, things, places, dialogue, and sound. I am not just a movie buff, I’m a movie analyzer. I have an open mind to all films, not just recent or American. I can recommend movies of all genres and languages. We can discuss landmarks of story telling in Chris Marker’s La Jetée (1962, FR); art of camera movement in Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai (1954, JAP); representation in Stephan Elliott’s The Adventure of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994, AUS); or the evolution of science fiction in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (2012, USA).
